This city is hidden behind its pretty little mask. Secrets behind closed doors. And mysteries lurking every corner. You see, Sterling City holds three special types of creatures. Speakers, Vampires and the Dhampir. They're mysterious and different. Dangerous, is the word you're looking for. Loyalties stretch back centuries in this town, and nobody has dared to break the careful hierarchy that its leaders have established. Until now. Two of Sterling's most powerful men have died, and now control over the city and its inhabitants could be given to anyone. This could be anyone's game, and if power ends up in the wrong hands, everything, everyone will be lost. Blood, betrayals, secrets... The ultimate struggle is on, one that could determine the fate of the world as we know it. Darkness is at the door. Welcome to Sterling City, where your experience will always be exciting and worthwhile. With beautiful wildlife and wonderful historical sites, this place has everything you want and more!

That's the brochure we give to resorts. Let's cut to the chase. You'll get one of two views if you move to Sterling. If you're a human, you'll feel insignificant next to the cool, calm Most Influential People of society. You'll wonder about those poor missing people--not that you hear about them much. And you'll be stunned by those pale, pretty faces. If you happen to be specially gifted, you'll already know something about what you're going to encounter.

Speakers. They care about humans, guard humans... Essentially, they are humans. Just a little different. What with their enhanced strength and ability to control the dead. You could say they're one of the few reasons why humans are in the dark about these frightening matters. And the reason why some people aren't six feet under.

Speaking of the dead, there are some without beating hearts who give Speakers a problem. Vampires. Lovely, charming--all the better to drink your blood with. Truthfully, they aren't all bad. Not at all. But Speakers don't see it that way, so you can see why the two clash. So much, in fact, that the two races are in something of a war.

There is one thing they can agree on: the need to exterminate Dhampirs. This could be because, as a combination of Speaker and vampire blood, Dhampirs are the only creatures that pose a threat to the other races. So if you do happen to be one of these little half-breeds, watch out. Life isn't going to be pretty.

There are good guys, and there are bad guys--on every side. One thing you can be sure about is this: you will be threatened constantly, and from every single species. Loyalties are what matters in this town. Thanks to a few deaths and a couple deadly secrets, the leadership might be shaken up a bit. You'll need all the help you can get.

Too bad. We're all on our own, aren't we?
