Speakers are complicated.
Life Span/Mortality Speakers have a normal life span, like any other human. They can get struck with diseases, and must eat like any other human... Basically, they are humans. They just have special gifts. They are more resilient and hardy than most humans, so if a virus that kills people infected a Speaker, they'd probably recover after a while.
Powers Speakers, though not as strong as vampires or Dhampirs, are much stronger and faster than the average human. Their intelligence is high, and they learn quickly, making them great fighters. Their reflexes are great, and every Speaker has the ability to sense vampires before they actually have an encounter. (However, they are not able to sense Dhampirs, as they are half Speaker.) Powerful Speakers can make their own spirits leave their bodies to control someone else' body, though their own forms become immobile and helpless until they return. They also have necromancy abilities. They can summon the dead--as in, ghosts--control them, and sometimes reanimate the dead. (Though this takes a lot of power.)
Lifestyle Outwardly, Speakers live like any other humans. However, they are very open to each other in their own species. If you're a Speaker, chances are, you know who is a Speaker and who isn't--you'll also know who's a vampire. Speakers and vampires won't often have public fights, but most dislike each other immensely. Speakers feel that all vamps are dangerous, and that it's their job to make sure that everyone stays safe. Most vampires resent that, and it often leads into territorial fights. The one thing that most Speakers and vampires are united on is this: Dhampirs, however few they may be, do not belong in their world.
Occupation-wise, most Speakers live as normal humans would in that area, though they can have side jobs. Bounty hunters, detectives, even assassins.
Forbidden Though they're often shut out by their peers, Speakers are allowed to be friendly to vampires. It's just not in their nature. However, Speakers are NOT allowed to give vamps their blood. Most vampires do crave it more than normal blood, though, as it gives them an extra energy kick.
